Therapeutic Boarding Schools Defined

Therapeutic boarding schools such as Evangelhouse Christian Academy are designed to deal with specific behavioral health issues. We exclusively serve girls in grades 6 through 12 that have mood disorders, ADHD, depression, family discord, defiance, anger, and more.  Girls come to Evangelhouse Christian Academy for approximately a school year or longer.

Evangelhouse Christian Academy is unique in that we don’t take teens with higher-level needs that require more intensive treatment. Parents are often glad to hear this and that their daughter will not be exposed to higher-level issues that they might experience at a residential treatment center or other locked facility.

In therapeutic boarding schools like Evangelhouse Christian Academy, academics are administered through qualified teachers and the Louisana Department of Education. We must adhere to strict standards for quality education in order to maintain our accreditation.

Therapeutic boarding schools are not intensive in inpatient psychiatric hospitals. They are more akin to group homes or home-based residential programs. Because students are not physically locked-in like in residential treatment centers, we can enjoy a host of activities like horseback riding, bike riding, soccer, volleyball, community service project, and outings.

As opposed to residential treatment centers com treatment centers, therapeutic boarding schools have a stronger academic focus as the student is generally college-bound. Because of this, we put special focus on ensuring our girls are ready to face the challenges of independence in addition to preparing them for a successful transition home

Christian boarding schools for teen girls, such as Evangelhouse, provide a number of advantages. Our girls receive the individual attention they require to avoid falling behind academically from teachers that are academically qualified and also understand the mental health issues the students are enrolled for. Girls acquire resilience and self-reliance at Evangelhouse. Girls who attend have a better chance of developing skills to ensure they are successful in college and beyond.

    Depression in Girls

Depression is generally a more common, and potentially more impactful illness than most girls realize. Research tells us that an estimated 3.2 million teenagers in the United States experienced at least one major depressive episode. It’s no surprise that quality treatment options like Evangelhouse Christian Academy are in demand. Current statistics tell us that approximately 13% of teenagers will experience sadness before they reach adulthood.

At Evangelhouse Christian Academy, our students are included in a close-knit peer group. We limit our total census to just 16 girls at a time. Also, with the absence of smartphones, our girls learn how to express themselves and their frustrations face-to-face, not through a screen. Overuse of electronic devices may be preventing young people from hobbies, religion, sports, friendships, and socializing, which might help them avoid depression in the first place.

Our mission is to enable our girls to learn the skills to overcome issues like depression, anger, relationship problems, ADHD, and more. Part of the program focuses on the transition home as students learn to manage their symptoms in the next environment.

Depression rates among adolescents, particularly among females, have risen over the past decade, with around 8% of teens reporting being depressed. If your daughter has depression, now is the time to get help. As behaviors become more ingrained the more they are practiced, it’s important to break the cycle with your child as soon as possible. When to Choose a Therapeutic Boarding School for Girls

Every therapeutic boarding school is different and has its own focus area. One of the main advantages of a therapeutic boarding school over typical group or individual therapy, even when combined with medication management, is the ability to see a student in her peer groups socializing and communicating naturally.

Under normal circumstances, a therapist has to completely rely on their patient to relay what is going on in their life. Therapists then naturally miss out on so much- nonverbal communication, events that the patient may be left out, and of course the other person’s side of the story.

In a therapeutic boarding school like Evangelhouse Christian Academy, therapists are there with their patients throughout the week. They eat, play, and communicate with the residents and other staff members alike. Also, we include teachers and program staff members in our treatment team meetings. This way, along with parental input, we get a full picture of what is going on with your child and how we can set them on a path to recovery.

Individual, family, and group therapy interventions are structured within the Evangelhouse Lifeleaf™ system. This state-of-the-art system challenges students to work beyond symptom improvement. This unique integrative approach leads students to maturity, insight, and self-awareness. The blend of Christian values and professional clinical psychotherapy includes:
