Houston Girls Therapeutic Boarding School

Since 1995 Evangelhouse Christian Academy has graduated over 200 students attending from over 30 states and 5 foreign countries. Many girls attending our therapeutic boarding school come from Houston and nearby cities. Our Christian Academy employs licensed teachers with advanced degrees who administer a nationally accredited curriculum. Our unique and thorough therapeutic evaluation process guides education planning for each student.

Low student-to-teacher ratios accommodate learning difficulties presented by complex mood and behavior disorders. An integrative classroom day incorporates biblical teaching, group counseling, and academic work. We offer three educational tracts within our boarding school academic program. The individual attention we provide can support students who are advanced academically alongside those who may struggle.

Houston Girls Love Our Therapeutic Boarding School

The strength of the Evangelhouse program is based on our ability to establish a supportive community environment for your daughter. Essentially, we have developed communities within communities that have layers of support deriving from residential, clinical, and academic staff. Girls from Houston quickly acclimate to our therapeutic boarding school. Each staff member is responsible for leading comparable-aged girls on similar topics that are formed based on the unique emotional needs your daughter presents. These communities aim to be more like a family, with more warmth and acceptance.

The therapeutic boarding school program at Evangelhouse emphasizes and promotes community service for Houston girls. There are many benefits that our students receive by participating in this aspect of the program. One benefit is learning by doing to develop strong working relationships. While students are giving back to their communities, they are learning how to become responsible and respectful. They grow to understand that teamwork is established on the basis of trust in that each individual promises to deliver on their responsibilities to the program. The Evangelhouse community service program fosters a friendly social environment that engages our teenage girls to work with staff and colleagues.  This aspect of the program in turn nurtures their confidence and trust in each other outside of the academic setting.

Your daughter will benefit by living in a structured community at our therapeutic boarding school. Part of the experience of this community is becoming a member of positive peer culture. Receiving helpful feedback from her peers will be helpful to your daughter as she learns to work with her peer group to overcome challenges.  When your daughter experiences positive connections with her peers, it will foster her positive self-esteem and image. The therapist’s role during individual sessions includes facilitation and observation while in the milieu. The therapist also provides feedback and direction. To sum it up, the peer-group connection at Evangelhouse is a vital experience because it will foster your daughter’s positive growth.

During milieu therapy, every member of the peer group has a responsibility for their own welfare as well as for the welfare of the group. Milieu therapy provides a safe setting where your daughter is encouraged to share emotional issues. Prior to the therapy session, the group will establish norms and expectations and then come to an agreement on how to enforce them. Therapists commonly initiate a talking point on the basis of how a decision or behavior affected the larger group. One goal of milieu therapy is for the community member to develop relationship skills. Another goal is to develop adaptive coping methods. The overall process fosters positive growth and connectivity to the community of peers.

Therapeutic Boarding School for Houston Girls offering Individualized Attention

At Evangelhouse Christian Academy we have seen many issues over the years plague young girls in grades 6-12. Today’s issues are more profound than ever. It used to be that just picking a career, or finding a marital partner was the most a girl had to worry about. At our therapeutic boarding school, we help girls from Houston overcome a variety of modern issues.

Today’s modern fast-paced world, especially in large cities like Houston, is much different. Girls go online to socialize and connect. They are in social competitions for likes on social media, and they are pressured to take photos showing their best sides in the public for followers. Online bullying and other cyber pressures are unique to this generation of girls.

Below are 5 issues that are different today for girls:

    “Fitting in”

From buying the right clothes to hanging out with the right people, fitting in today is harder than ever. Part of this is due to how publicly the typical teen lives thanks to the internet. Often, the pressure to fit in is too much. This is when the outside help of a therapeutic boarding school like Evangelhouse is warranted.

    Motivation

Teenagers have gotten more secluded in their virtual worlds. No longer are teens motivated by getting their own car or a job. It’s often difficult to find motivation for a young teen that does not involve something related to a screen. At Evangelhouse Christian Academy, we help girls find that inner spark and re-discover who they are.

    Disrespect

Teens are surrounded by disrespect today. They see it in the movies they watch and the online games they play. It’s pervasive in modern music as well. Even female “role models” in modern pop music sing songs that are often disrespectful to themselves. At Evangelhouse Christian Academy we help young ladies build self-respect through our positive peer culture.

    Depression and Anxiety

Interacting mainly online has been linked to depression and anxiety. We look at photos of others online and it’s just human nature to compare. Being cooped up at home and cut off from the rest of the world only adds to the sensation.

Teens are suffering from depression and anxiety perhaps more than ever before. Many teens’ online “friends” will post only the best photos on vacation after taking multiple shots. This leaves followers feeling inadequate and that they are somehow missing out.

At Evangelhouse Christian Academy, we treat depression, anxiety, and a host of other issues. Individual, family, and group therapy interventions are structured within the Evangelhouse Lifeleaf™ system. This state-of-the-art system challenges students to work beyond symptom improvement. This unique integrative approach leads students to maturity, insight, and self-awareness. The blend of Christian values and professional clinical psychotherapy includes:

    • Professional assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning
    • Weekly individual therapy
    • Weekly group therapy
    • Parent and family therapy
