North Carolina Therapeutic Boarding School for Girls

We are a therapeutic boarding school for girls in North Carolina. Located in the Southeast, we enroll girls from all over the US and international enrollments from 5 countries and counting!

Located in Louisana, the Evangelhouse therapeutic boarding school was established in 1995 to serve Christian families with a quality residential treatment option for troubled teen girls.  In its quest to do so, Evangelhouse pioneered a treatment model that blends licensed behavioral healthcare with the structure of a traditional Christian boarding school.  Since then, it has evolved to become the premier non-denominational Christian option in the marketplace of high-quality teen residential treatment centers.

Therapeutic Boarding School Daily Life

The strength of the Evangelhouse therapeutic boarding school program is based on our ability to establish a supportive community environment for your daughter. Essentially, we have developed communities within communities that have layers of support deriving from residential, clinical, and academic staff. Each staff member is responsible for leading comparable-aged girls on similar topics that are formed based on the unique emotional needs your daughter presents. These communities aim to be more like a family, with more warmth and acceptance.

The therapeutic boarding school program at Evangelhouse emphasizes and promotes community service. There are many benefits that our students receive by participating in this aspect of the program. One benefit is learning by doing to develop strong working relationships. While students are giving back to their communities, they are learning how to become responsible and respectful. They grow to understand that teamwork is established on the basis of trust in that each individual promises to deliver on their responsibilities to the program. The Evangelhouse community service program fosters a friendly social environment that engages our teenage girls to work with staff and colleagues.  This aspect of the program in turn nurtures their confidence and trust in each other outside of the academic setting.

Your daughter will benefit by living in a structured community like Evangelhouse therapeutic boarding school for girls. Part of the experience of this community is becoming a member of positive peer culture. Receiving helpful feedback from her peers will be helpful to your daughter as she learns to work with her peer group to overcome challenges.  When your daughter experiences positive connections with her peers, it will foster her positive self-esteem and image. The therapist’s role during individual sessions includes facilitation and observation while in the milieu. The therapist also provides feedback and direction. To sum it up, the peer-group connection at Evangelhouse is a vital experience because it will foster your daughter’s positive growth.

During milieu therapy, every member of the peer group has a responsibility for their own welfare as well as for the welfare of the group. Milieu therapy provides a safe setting where your daughter is encouraged to share emotional issues. Prior to the therapy session, the group will establish norms and expectations and then come to an agreement on how to enforce them. Therapists commonly initiate a talking point on the basis of how a decision or behavior affected the larger group. One goal of milieu therapy is for the community member to develop relationship skills. Another goal is to develop adaptive coping methods. The overall process fosters positive growth and connectivity to the community of peers.

When to Choose a Christian Therapeutic Boarding School

Many families that enroll their daughters at Evangelhouse therapeutic boarding school for girls in North Carolina have already sought outpatient therapy. However, outpatient therapy is limited in scope. A therapist has to be 100% reliant on what a child says in therapy to be an accurate portrayal of what is going on in real life. At Evangelhouse, therapists and students alike interact eating meals together and attending activities. We can see how your daughter is interacting with peers and coping with her frustrations in real-time.

So what makes therapy at Evangelhouse therapeutic boarding school for girls unique? While general therapy can help, our therapeutic boarding school focuses on the most effective methods to help troubled girls. These therapies can include equine therapy, CBT, DBT, group sessions, individual sessions, and family sessions.

Further, we can help our students try out new coping skills in the moment. This “in the moment” therapy has many advantages over outpatient therapy. The best time to practice a coping skill is when you really need to cope, not hours or even days later in a therapist’s office when emotions have returned to normal.

There are several reasons why people choose therapeutic boarding schools like Evangelhouse over other options. A positive peer group and a support structure usually help troubled girls make greater progress than a peer group that has a history of negative or harmful behaviors. With staff present 24/7, you can rest assured that your daughter will be supervised and will receive multiple positive, therapeutic interactions every day.

Evangelhouse Christian Academy has been assisting families just like yours for many years. You will take an active role in your family’s recovery. Well-trained professionals and loving therapists of Evangelhouse will be there for you and your family. While it can be painful for parents to think about missing their child, keeping a teen girl in their existing circle of friends and influences can be more painful.

TESTIMONIALS

Modern Therapy for Modern Issues

At Evangelhouse therapeutic boarding school for girls in North Carolina, we are an ideal environment to help teen girls learn how to overcome the trauma of being bullied. Cyberbullying has become a common topic in therapeutic research today. Being bullied online has surpassed bullying as the most common kind of harassment experienced by teen girls in the United States.

Teens can use Snapchat, Instagram, Tik Tok, and Twitter to communicate with one another and other positive identity development uses. That being said, being online can cause a lot of different problems for a variety of reasons. Social media has many positive uses, but its negatives can include low self-esteem due to constant comparison with others, feelings of being “ugly” or not having enough friends, and it also exposes young girls to being bullied online.

While peer pressure isn’t a new problem, being online and using social media apps has elevated it to new heights. Sexting, for example, is a big source of concern for many families. We provide a positive Christian environment where we seek to instill the core values girls today need.

At Evangelhouse therapeutic boarding school for girls, our students develop character and build their relationship skills. As a result, they are able to act in a mature and responsible manner online when they transition back home. Instead of socializing online with no supervision, girls at Evangelhouse socialize in the therapeutic setting with counselors and other trained staff observing or participating in the conversation.

Why a Girls-Only Boarding School?

Researchers have found that gender-specific rehab is the most effective way to treat mental health and addiction issues. Evangelhouse therapeutic boarding school is only for girls grades 6-12. We also don’t accept girls with higher-level issues that would be disruptive to our program. This would include girls with severe drug addictions, psychosis, significant running away, or cruelty towards animals.

With our positive peer culture focus, your daughter will learn to set boundaries with other girls. Because we are girls only, she will not have the distractions of boys and relationships around.  In our therapeutic milieu, she will learn to be assertive with her female peers in a safe environment.

Evangelhouse is organized around five areas of wellness in which students grow – Spiritual, Therapeutic, Academic, Social, and Physical. This structure provides a holistic perspective of a student’s level of functioning. Our professional services address the following symptoms and their underlying root causes in each area of wellness.

Quarterly, students participate in high-ropes confidence training and are taught to take on challenging tasks with the help of their peers. They are challenged to become aware of their communication habits and how to make meaningful contributions to others. Students’ unique leadership styles are identified and honed, as they learn to work cooperatively within a group.

At Evangelhouse Christian Academy, we believe that physical education for girls is an important part of the therapeutic process. By allowing students to express themselves through a variety of supervised outdoor activities, they will learn valuable leadership skills that will help guide them through life.
