Rise and Shine, Breakfast, Morning Activity

Students work together to complete morning responsibilities, prepare breakfast, and interact as a community. Dorm life at Evangelhouse Christian Academy emphasizes community living with shared responsibilities including meal preparation in order to manage the campus. Students learn practical life-management skills while contributing to their peer group.

School
9:00 am - 3:00 pm
School Day

At Evangelhouse Christian Academy, licensed teachers with advanced degrees administer a nationally accredited curriculum. Our unique and thorough therapeutic evaluation process guides education planning for each student. Student-to-teacher ratios accommodate learning difficulties presented by complex mood and behavior disorders. An integrative classroom day incorporates biblical teaching, group counseling, and academic work. We offer three educational tracts within our boarding school academic program. The individual attention we provide can support students who are advanced academically alongside those who may struggle.

Afternoon Transition

During the afternoon transition students move from the school back to the dorm. This is a break time when students change out of their school clothes into activity apparel. Students are responsible for putting away their school books and course materials as they prepare for the activity portion of their day.

Individual Therapy
4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Teenagers’ brains grow rapidly. Teens’ behavior, decisions, and interactions are influenced by brain maturation and other adolescent changes. Individual therapy from a licensed therapist at Evangelhouse allows our girls to express themselves and overcome obstacles. Year after year, we see our girls gain confidence, maturity, and respect through treatment.

Dinner

Evening meals are prepared with the help of Evangelhouse students and staff working together. Students prepare the evening meal and eat together each evening, engaging in healthy communication and further developing relationship skills as part of our positive peer culture environment.

English horseback riding
6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Evangelhouse Christian Academy partners with a nearby riding school to provide students four hours of English horseback riding instruction. Training is based on USPC standards for riding, and students learn skills in stabling, grooming, and caring for horses.

Homework & Get Ready for Bed

Students complete homework assignments during this time. As their day comes to a close, they wind down and prepare for bed and complete any end-of-day hygiene duties. An evening devotional is also part of the daily schedule.

Social Time/Free Time

During this time, students can read, play a game, watch a movie, or socialize before going to bed.

Group Therapy
4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Individual counseling can help girls overcome concerns, decrease anger and depression, and explore feelings. But some girls don’t seem to make as much progress in individual therapy. This is because social worries or peer interaction issues won’t show up in individual sessions. Group therapy allows therapists to observe teenagers’ social difficulties in action. At Evangelhouse, we see firsthand the shyness, inattentiveness, fearfulness, and social anxiety of our girls in group therapy sessions as they interact with others. Our highly-trained and experienced group therapists recognize these behaviors and help our girls break harmful patterns and make new choices.

Athletic activities
6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Each day at Evangelhouse, students exercise aerobically for 45 minutes, and then participate in 45 minutes of team sports activities such as soccer, volleyball, softball, and flag football. Other recreational sports include ultimate Frisbee, kickball, and Capture the Flag. Students also participate in a weeklong summer intensive training camp for soccer, tennis, and basketball. Team sports are beneficial for exercise, motor skill development, self-confidence and winning attitudes.

Students enjoy a rich variety of fun activities. Every weekend, privilege-earning students can participate in an outing that may include: a visit to a coffee shop, a movie theatre, a restaurant, or a shopping trip for personal items. They may also have the opportunity to enjoy a monthly group outing to an ice skating rink, a bowling alley, an art museum, or a Christian concert.

Family Therapy

At Evangelhouse, we are preparing your daughter for the transition home from day one. All girls who complete the treatment process return home with a behavioral contract. Parents are included in this contracting process. Parents also attend a Family Workshop presentation which happens several times per year.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a modified form of CBT (CBT). It teaches people to be present, manage stress, regulate emotions, and improve interpersonal connections. DBT was designed to treat borderline personality disorder, but it has been modified to address other mental health issues. It can help persons who have trouble controlling their emotions or self-destructive tendencies (such as eating disorders and substance use disorders). This therapy is occasionally used to treat PTSD (PTSD).

Work training
6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Students contribute two hours per week to work activities on the campus. They are taught how to identify a need, organize a task, see it through to completion, review the outcome, and report the results to supervisors. These activities are designed to instill a healthy work ethic. The work skills gained at Evangelhouse Christian Academy prepare teens to enter the workforce and teach them how to complete a job with excellence.

Students are given personal guidance on eating habits, healthy attitudes toward food, and choice management within the structure of the school. In addition, students are given personal goals for daily exercise, cardiovascular endurance, and muscle development. Students also receive guidance in personal hygiene habits and self-care. Periodic personal meetings and check-ups give students the opportunity to learn how to apply a healthy diet, exercise, and lifestyle habits to their lives.

Church

Church

While the school maintains a non-denominational approach, Evangelhouse has a special relationship with First Assembly of God Church in Lafayette, Louisiana. Students attend Sunday morning worship and mid-week youth group meetings. Staff supervises their involvement, but students are welcomed by the people of the church. Since 1995, First Assembly and Evangelhouse have worked together to provide teens the opportunity for an authentic experience with God. The church provides a chance for students to explore and experience God in a renewed way, yet these teens are taught to honor their parents’ denominational background within that renewed relationship. Families from a variety of Catholic and Protestant Church backgrounds find this approach effective for reconnecting their daughter to God through Jesus Christ.
