Academic Recovery in a Supportive and Trauma Informed Classroom
At Evangelhouse, academics are designed to support Kentucky girls whose experiences with sexual exploitation have affected their ability to focus, engage, and succeed in school. Trauma can impact concentration, motivation, memory, self confidence, and overall academic performance.
Classrooms are intentionally small, structured, and supportive, allowing students from Kentucky to feel safe while rebuilding their confidence as learners. Teachers create an environment where students are encouraged, respected, and understood without being defined by their past experiences.
Educators work closely with therapists to understand how trauma may affect learning behaviors such as avoidance, anxiety, perfectionism, low motivation, or difficulty concentrating. Together, they develop individualized plans that support both emotional healing and academic success.
As students begin to heal and regain confidence, they reconnect with learning. Academic performance improves, self esteem grows, and Kentucky girls rediscover their strengths, abilities, and future potential.
